FBN BANK (DRC) LTD

FBNBank DRC is a subsidiary of First Bank of Nigeria Limited, Sub-Saharan Africa’s premier banking brand. FBNBank DRC was until 12th September 2014 when the Central Bank of Congo (BCC) approved its change of name, Banque Internationale de Credit (BIC) which establishment dates back to 1st July 1994.

The then BIC began as an initiative of Congolese business people arising from the 1992 decision by Barclays Bank Plc to cease operating in the DRC. In July 2008, two large international investment groups, namely Benny Steinmetz Group (BSG) and Dan Gertler International (DGI) became shareholders in BIC. With their extensive experience in financial markets and their solid base in the DRC, they brought to BIC new human, financial and technical help to enable BIC respond positively to the increasing demands of its customers.

Three years later, specifically on 11th October 2011, the leading financial services Group in Sub-Saharan Africa, First Bank of Nigeria, became a majority shareholder in BIC with a 75% stake. FBN’s acquisition immediately reinforced BIC as one of the strongest banking institutions in the DRC. At the same time, BIC began to leverage FBN’s international network, expertise, technology and experience to offer improved services to its customers and better seize the opportunities of a market that is still largely untapped. In the years that have followed, the Bank has continued to experience strong growth driven primarily by the diversification of its customer base and the creation of a national network of branches. In February 2015, BIC rebranded to FBNBank DRC, taking on the same visual identity of the parent FirstBank.
